Ag commodities compose 45% of total export from Ukraine: research

The export of agricultural commodities in 2020 brought Ukraine USD 22 bln of export revenue, representing 45% of Ukraine's total foreign trade, stated the Head of Expert Group at UBTA Oleksandra Avramenko in the framework of the fifth anniversary presentation of the Agrarian Portfolio-2021 research, AgroPolit.com reports.

"Agricultural exports account for 45% of Ukraine's total exports in 2020. Commodities are delivered to 175 countries. At the same time, 1/3 of agricultural products produced stays in Ukraine, and 2/3 are exported," she marks.

As noted by Oleksandra Avramenko, agricultural exports last year were dominated by corn, sunflowerseed oil, wheat, rapeseed, soybeans, and other products.

Key importers of Ukrainian ag commodities in 2020:

  1. Europe: 32.4% of total exports, USD 7.19 bln in export revenue
  2. Asia: 19.7%, USD 4.37 bln
  3. Middle East: 15.9%, USD 3.52 bln
  4. Africa: 13.3%, USD 2.95 bln
  5. Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU): 3.7%, USD 814.7 mln

Previously reported that Egypt's GASC purchased 240 thou. t of Ukrainian wheat at the latest tender. Since the start of 2021/22, staple grains export shipment from Ukraine has matched 5.33 mln t.
