Rye export from Ukraine in 2021/22 may get to 140 thou. t: Deputy Minister Vysotsky
In the 2021/2022 season, agriproducers in Ukraine harvested 600 thou. t of rye. Taking into account the domestic consumption of 460 thou. t, the country may export up to 140 thou. t per season, without any risk to food security, Deputy Minister for Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky announced, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
"Rye production in the current season reached 600 thou. t. With the domestic consumption of 460 thou. t, Ukraine does have a capacity to deliver at least 100 thou. t of rye to foreign markets. There are no risks for the maximum export volume of 130-140 thou. t considering the balance between supply and demand," he marked.
The Deputy Minister said that in 2021/22 the production of rye in Ukraine was intensified as compared to the previous seasons when the country was importing this crop. He expects the upward production trend to continue through the next season. Rye production in Ukraine should be at least not lower than in 2021/22, with the potential to increase.
"Currently, winter rye crops are in a satisfactory condition in most of the territories of Ukraine. Much depends on how it goes through winter. There is a positive balance between supply and demand for rye and we expect it to be preserved," Taras Vysotsky added.
