Grain export 2020/21: commodities shipment 11.7% lower YoY

Staple grains export shipment from Ukraine has reached 12.15 mln t since the start of the 2020/21 season. As of Oct. 2, agricultural commodities shipment dropped by 1.61 mln t or 11.7% from the prior year's comparative period, 13.77 mln t, the information-analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine reports.

Grain export structure in the reporting period:

  • wheat: 8.56 mln t, 1.9% or 166 thou. t y-o-y
  • barley: 2.88 mln t, 1.97% or 58 thou. t y-o-y
  • corn: 675 thou. t, 67.32% or 1.39 mln t y-o-y

In the 2019/20 season, grains, pulses and flour export from Ukraine totalled the record 57.2 mln t, 6.8 mln t higher YoY (2018/19: 50.4 mln t).

As a reminder, the Ministry for the Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine and grain market participants signed the Annex to the Memorandum of Understanding on Aug. 17, setting the limit for wheat export from Ukraine in the 2020/21 season at 17.5 mln t, rye 1 thou. t.

Earlier it was reported that sea port staple grains export shipment from Ukraine in August totalled 5.49 mln t, which is twice as high as the July export volume.
