Grain export 2020/21: wheat shipment 5% lower YoY

Staple grains export shipment from Ukraine has reached 13.64 mln t since the start of the 2020/21 season. As of Oct. 16, agricultural commodities shipment dropped by 1.72 mln t or 12% from the prior year's comparative period, 15.36 mln t, the information-analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine reports.

Grain export structure in the reporting period:

  • wheat: 9.5 mln t, 5% or 464 thou. t y-o-y
  • barley: 3.06 mln t, 3% or 94 thou. t y-o-y
  • corn: 1.01 mln t, 59% or 1.44 mln t y-o-y
  • rye: 1.7 thou. t, 15% or 0.3 thou. t y-o-y

As a reminder, the Ministry for the Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine and grain market participants signed the Annex to the Memorandum of Understanding on Aug. 17, setting the limit for wheat export from Ukraine in the 2020/21 season at 17.5 mln t, rye at 1 thou. t.

In the 2019/20 season, grains, pulses and flour export from Ukraine totalled the record 57.2 mln t, 6.8 mln t higher YoY (2018/19: 50.4 mln t).

USDA forecast of corn production in Ukraine in 2020/21 was reduced by 2 mln t to 36.5 mln t (38.5 mln t in the September USDA report).
