May corn shipment in sea ports cut back by 20%

In the period May 1-31, sea ports of Ukraine shipped 3.28 mln t of staple grains for export, 4.5% down from April export volume (3.4 mln t as provided by the figures updated), the APK-Inform consultancy reports.

May wheat shipment reached 1.01 mln t, 1.5x higher mth/mth. Corn shipment dropped by 20% mth/mth, to 2.19 mln t. Barley export in May totalled 79.3 thou. t, 7.5x more from the previous month.

The key export markets for Ukrainian grain in May:

  • Indonesia: 288.2 thou. t of wheat
  • China: 523.5 thou. t of corn
  • Iraq: 65 thou. t of barley, 82% of the total shipment

Since the start of 2020/21, the port of Mykolaiv has provided for the transshipment of 14.1 mln t of ag commodities. The ports of Chernomorsk and Pivdenny handled 11.25 and 7.8 mln t, respectively.

USDA in its June report put the forecast for wheat production in Ukraine in 2021/22 at 29.5 mln t, and corn at 37.5 mln t.
