Rapeseed processing in Ukraine boosts by 48% in July-Aug, 10 key processors cover 90% of market

Rapeseed processing in Ukraine in July-August 2021/22(July 2021-June 2022) progressed to 284 thou. t, 48% higher YoY, the APK-Inform consultancy reports.
In July, the volume of processing for the first time in the reporting period since 2006/07 exceeded the volume of export, making 79.5 thou. t vs. 52 thou. t of export shipment, as per experts' estimates.
Reportedly, in Ukraine rapeseed is processed by virtually the same companies having well-established distribution channels within the country or in export markets.
"It is rare in Ukraine that new companies enter the segment of rapeseed processing. This season, a subsidiary of Kernel, Prydniprovsk Oil Crushing Plant, which is traditionally engaged in sunflower processing, tops rapeseed processors rating in July-August 2021/22 with a 17% share," the report reads.

"Considering the higher demand for Ukrainian rapeseed at the ports, this season it is more complicated for processing companies to compete with traders, and, thus, a significant increase in processing by the end of the season is not expected, despite the growth of this oilseed crop production in the country," analysts mark.
This figure is expected to be pegged to market supply in the future and could total about 330-340 thou. t in 2021/22, 6% up YoY.
In the crop year 2021, rapeseed production in Ukraine reached 2.9 mln t on 1.01 mln ha. The crop yielded 2.86 t/ha on average. In 2020, producers harvested 2.55 mln t of this oilseed crop on 1.11 mln ha using the average yield of 2.29 t/ha.
Rapeseed oil production in Ukraine made up 107 thou. t in the calendar year 2020.
