Grain exports from Ukraine by rail launched: Neroba
Ukrainian agriproducers have started grains export shipment to Europe by rail, informs Maxigrain business development manager Elena Neroba.
Eleven railway crossings at the border with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova are now the main route for exports. Before the war, only one of them, in Izov, was 100% operational, while the others were 50-80% functional.
According to Elena Neroba, Maxigrain has had its first export contract since the war started.
"We have finally signed the first export contracts since the war started. The first consignments of grain have already been delivered to Poland", Elena Neroba comments.
Despite the optimism from the first contracts, Elena Neroba cautions that with this rate of exports via the railway, shipment of products from storage facilities is uncertain.
"Now Ukraine has 6.5 mln t of wheat and about 15 mln t of corn available for export. And it is yet unclear where to sell the future crop. In autumn, producers planted 6.5 mln ha of winter wheat, which will yield about 14 mln t of grain," the expert says.
Previously reported that since the start of the russia-Ukraine war, Ukraine has lost USD 1.5 bln as a result of decreased exports of agri-food commodities.
