Kernel harvests 13% lower yield of sunflower

This production season, sunflower yield in the fields of the company Kernel decreased by 13% compared with the financial year 2020(July 2019–June 2020).

As provided by the company's report, sunflower is harvested using the average yield of 3 t/ha, whereas last season the crop yielded 3.5 t/ha.

"Crop yields in the company’s farming segment are expected to decline for all three major crops: corn, sunflower, and wheat. Dry spring weather undermined crop yield potential for wheat, and lack of rains during summer negatively impacted corn and sunflower yields," the report reads.

As of October 25, Kernel harvested 43.7% of corn areas, 98% of sunflower and 100% of wheat. In FY2020, the company's cropping plan included:

  • corn: 254.8 thou. ha, 10% more YoY (FY2019(July 2018–June 2019): 231.4), the average yield stood 12% lower at 7.5 t/ha
  • sunflower: 148.2 thou. ha, 9% more YoY (FY2019: 136.5), the average yield stood 13% lower at 3 t/ha
  • wheat: 72.3 thou. ha, 26% lower YoY (FY2019: 97.1 thou. ha), the average yield stood 17% lower at 4.9 t/ha
  • other(Includes rapeseed, soybean, barley, rye, oats, forage crops and other minor crops, as well as fallow land.): 23.1 thou. ha, 2x lower YoY (FY2019: 47.6)
